God's insight to me:
As I was preparing today's journey this first one by A. B. Simpson was so fitting to start off with. This will be my 151st blog I have written and you may ask yourself, "Why is he doing this?" A. B. Simpson had the answer it is what I prefer. I chose because of my love for Christ to reach out to anyone who will take the time to read these writings. With today's technology it is another way of fulfilling the great commission, Mark 16:15 And He said to them, Go into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation. Also as I advance in years it will leave a footprint behind of what I have became, 2Corinthians 5:17 So that if any one is in Christ, that one is a new creature; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.
The fiery furnace devotional refers also to choice like the previous devotional. I think of this sometimes as "the line drawn in the sand". Each one of us must make our stand. What do you prefer? The pleasures and temporary rewards of this world or the rewards in Heaven. You choose in your heart and God is very aware of what you choose. Believe me if you choose the world He will give it to you but remember it is written 2Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a rushing noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat. And the earth and the works in it will be burned up. Sometimes this worldly life comes with many disappointments but through them it just shows how great our God is. This is an awesome statement, "If there is a great trial in your life today, do not own it as a defeat, but continue, by faith, to claim the victory through Him who is able to make you more than conqueror, and a glorious victory will soon be apparent." Choose to continue by faith!
Max Lucado's devotional is asking each one of us, "What is the state of your heart?" Are you seeking self-pity or seeking Christ, drinking human misery or tasting God’s mercy. Though Max Lucado may be asking the question, God already knows the answer.
Yesterday I did the last two programs for the God's Love Outreach Ministry, "Seeds of Youth". As I was reading the last devotional from 365.org, I was recalling how the program started. With the music "Lost in the 50's Tonight" playing in the background, I spoke and shown pictures from almost 60 years ago. Who would of thought we would have a phone in out pockets? What ever happened to whitewall tires? As the pictures were being shown, preparing the residents for the type of music that followed I noticed it brought back many memories to them. The music from back then had a message for many people. The message of love, hope, caring and being free. What most of the residents told me all this month is they do not understand the words in today's songs. They don't listen to the music today for they can't understand the message. My friends the message of Christ will never change. It's the sweetest music I have ever heard. No matter what your age or where you are at the Spirit will make it real to you, if you choose to want to hear it!
God Is Waiting For You To Choose
Do not think that God is waiting,
to see what you are going to do.
He already knows your heart,
and everything there is about you
He is not waiting for you
to do some kindly deed,
For He knows what is in your heart,
and exactly what you want to do indeed.
God is not waiting on you,
to once in a while sing His praise,
for God already has all the answers
as we live through out our days.
What God is waiting for,
is for you to make that choice,
to surrender your life totally to Him,
and you listen carefully to His Spirits voice.
So as each day quickly goes by,
you may have lost another time,
to choose to start a new life in Christ,
for I chose and He is the best friend of mine!

Days of Heaven Upon Earth Devotionals
by A. B. Simpson
"Therefore, choose" (Deut. xxx. 19).
Men are choosing every day the spiritual or earthly. And as we choose we are taking our place unconsciously with the friends of Christ, or the world. It is not merely what ye say, it is what we prefer.
When Solomon made his great choice at Gibeon, God said to him, "Because this was in thine heart to ask wisdom, therefore will I give it unto thee, and all else besides that thou didst not choose." It was not merely that he said it because it was right to say, and would please God if he said it.
But it was the thing his heart preferred, and God saw it in his heart and gave it to him with all besides that he had not chosen. What are we choosing, beloved? It is our choice that settles our destiny.
It is not how we feel, but how we purpose. Have we chosen the good part? Have we said, "Whatever else I am or have, let me be God's child, let me have His favor and blessing, let me please Him?" Or have we said, "I must have this thing, and then I will see about religion." Alas, God has seen what was in thine heart, and perhaps He has already said, "They have their reward."

Streams in the Desert Bevotionals
by Mrs. Charles Cowman
The Fiery Furnace
"Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ" (2 Cor. 2:14).
God gets His greatest victories out of apparent defeats. Very often the enemy seems to triumph for a little, and God lets it be so; but then He comes in and upsets all the work of the enemy, overthrows the apparent victory, and as the Bible says, "turns the way of the wicked upside down." Thus He gives a great deal larger victory than we would have known if He had not allowed the enemy, seemingly, to triumph in the first place.
The story of the three Hebrew children being cast into the fiery furnace is a familiar one. Here was an apparent victory for the enemy. It looked as if the servants of the living God were going to have a terrible defeat. We have all been in places where it seemed as though we were defeated, and the enemy rejoiced. We can imagine what a complete defeat this looked to be. They fell down into the flames, and their enemies watched them to see them burn up in that awful fire, but were greatly astonished to see them walking around in the fire enjoying themselves. Nebuchadnezzar told them to "come forth out of the midst of the fire." Not even a hair was singed, nor was the smell of fire on their garments, "because there is no other god that can deliver after this sort."
This apparent defeat resulted in a marvelous victory.
Suppose that these three men had lost their faith and courage, and had complained, saying, "Why did not God keep us out of the furnace!" They would have been burned, and God would not have been glorified. If there is a great trial in your life today, do not own it as a defeat, but continue, by faith, to claim the victory through Him who is able to make you more than conqueror, and a glorious victory will soon be apparent. Let us learn that in all the hard places God brings us into, He is making opportunities for us to exercise such faith in Him as will bring about blessed results and greatly glorify His name. --Life of Praise
"Defeat may serve as well as victory To shake the soul and let the glory out. When the great oak is straining in the wind, The boughs drink in new beauty, and the trunk Sends down a deeper root on the windward side. Only the soul that knows the mighty grief Can know the mighty rapture. Sorrows come To stretch out spaces in the heart for joy."

The State of Your Heart
By Max Lucado
“The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart.” Luke 6:45, NIV
When you are offered a morsel of gossip marinated in slander, do you turn it down or pass it on? That depends on the state of your heart . . .
The state of your heart dictates whether you harbor a grudge or give grace, seek self-pity or seek Christ, drink human misery or taste God’s mercy.

Daily Devotional's from 365.org
Ever notice how discontented we can become when something new comes along? Think about cell phones. Some people I know desperately want an iPhone. They crave more “apps” and view their current phone as if it were two cans attached with a string.
We’re free to complain. Choosing to be grateful that we even have a cell phone in our pocket remains another option. Living by the Spirit frees us up. We can see possibilities beyond our circumstances. Our desires and feelings take a backseat to considering what God might want for us.
Living by our feelings enslaves us to the whim of every impulse and urge. Contentment, gratitude, peace, and generosity slip through our fingers like grains of sand at the beach. Impatience, selfishness, anger, and anxiety take root in our words and actions before we know it. After offering us a well-intentioned word of warning, Paul might want to know, “Can you hear me now?” Our lives will reflect our answer. Choose freedom.

My Journey 6/29/2010
God's insight to me:
Before I started reading today's devotionals the Lord blessed me with this poem. Then I came to the devotional by Katherine Kehler, "Jesus Changed My Life". I just knew that this had to be the only devotional to share for today in my journey with Jesus. It took a while for me to understand, "Christ is in the life changing business!" For my life changed slowly, for I now know God knew I wasn't ready for the dramatic change. It is a work in process. He gives me just enough to get me to my next step. What I have seen gradually in the past 13 plus years is what people, some I know, some I met for the first time see in me, Christ! If Christ hasn't changed you yet mu prayer is:
Show Them, Touch Them, Reach Them Lord
Show them Lord of Your awesome power.
Touch them Lord with Your mercy and grace.
Reach them Lord so they all will know,
it’s not about this time or of this place.
Show them Lord that Your Word is truth.
Touch them Lord so they will never stray.
Reach them Lord each click of the clock,
for it’s not about them but You each day.
Show them Lord each stripe on Your back.
Touch them Lord so they will finally understand.
Reach them Lord as only You can do,
for You truly are the Great I AM!
Show them, Touch them, Reach them Lord
so in their lives You become so true.
Use me Lord to show, touch and reach them,
so they all can love You, like I do!

Jesus Changed My Life
By Katherine Kehler
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
If you ever wonder if Jesus actually changes people into new creations, please read this powerful email.
“I was sexually abused as a child. I am 25 now but by the time I was 14 I was hooked on drugs. On heroin and crack cocaine from 17 years old. I ended up working the streets as a prostitute and then in prison. In prison I was suicidal--I wanted to end it all. I cried out to God and WOW...he came to me that night and Jesus has transformed me, he has healed the hurts within. I thank Jesus and I praise him for saving me and all the others who have experienced what we experienced. "
I now run a therapeutic animal project where I train young people to work with animals and learn to trust and love again. The Lord reaches these broken young people through the animals. That’s how he reached me when I came to the organization as a broken wreck of a girl. Praise the Lord.”
Have you been praying for someone for who is hooked on drugs or alcohol? Please don’t stop. Keep asking God to reach them through ways that will touch them. As you can see in this story, it can even be through animals.
We don’t know how and when He will do it—but thank Him for knowing the perfect time and place to reach your loved ones with His life-changing love.
Jesus, thank you changing my life because when we are in You, we become new creations. Today, I pray for the millions of people who have not had this life-changing experience with You. Draw them to Yourself, Oh Lord! Amen.

My Journey 6/26 - 6/28/2010
God's insight to me:
I like what Adrian Rogers wrote in this devotional. This sentence stood out to me, "Indeed one may not know that God is enough until God is all one has." As a believer I have found that has come true so many times in my life. In this worldly life things change in a heartbeat. But not God. When your day starts out sunny and bright but then life's storms rush in, God is there to say, "Peace be still".
Max Lucado's devotional I thought was good as I was reading it from older eyes. As I am getting older, and days are going by faster, I loved the word "new". But what I realize as I was reading this devotional is since I have given control of my life to Christ, I have never felt younger and more alive before in my life. I am sleeping better, eating better, reading better, listening better than ever before. Yep, all because of Him! Praise God!
Dr. Stanley's devotional is a good one to follow Max Lucado's with. Several years ago a friend of mine called and asked me to get the book, "Who I Am in Christ" by Neil T. Anderson. This came to mind after reading Dr. Stanley's devotional. Once you can understand who you are, you will not remain on the emotional roller-coaster. From the day of our creation we start with a yearning for His love. We were made this way. Jeremiah 1:5 Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; There is a gospel song titled, "When He Was On The Cross I Was On His Mind", how true. Thank You Jesus!
Charles Swindoll's devotional describes just how I felt back in 1997. As I said, "Lord You take control of my life!" total relief is what I felt. Worldly burdens were lifted from me. The Spirit that indwells in me at my moment of salvation became alive in me, because of my decision, my choice to let Him. I gave Him permission. Problems will come, and I know problems will go because Christ has won the battle. John 16:33 I have spoken these things to you so that you might have peace in Me. In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world.
The little poem from the Be Still devotional is a good one. "Leave the dusty road to others, Spotless keep thy soul and bright", good words to live by.
The Flowers in the Sun devotional I thought was well written. These words sometimes describes today's life for so many, disappointments overwhelm, grief crushes, expectations are frustrated. But as Marilyn Ehle writes "the warmth of God’s love begins to melt the cold realities threatening to overwhelm". Whatever this life throws our way, Christ has already overcome before us. As the bible verse stated above, ("In the world you shall have tribulation, but be of good cheer. I have overcome the world." John 16:33)for as Marilyn Ehle wrote "what God plants and nourishes can never die." Amen!

True Joy & Peace Comes From the Lord Alone
by Adrian Rogers
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Thee: because he trusteth in Thee." Isaiah 26:3
You may admit that God is necessary, but do you honestly know that God is enough and that He is, in fact, more than enough?
To find out if God is enough for you, let me ask you a couple of questions. Where do you obtain your joy? Is it from the Lord or from somewhere else? If your joy is from your health and it goes, then your joy will fly out the window. Many a believer has lost his health, his business, his family, his reputation, but has still maintained his joy because the source of genuine contentment and peace is in God. Indeed one may not know that God is enough until God is all one has.
When was the last time you visited a hospital waiting room and shared Christ with those who are hurting? Maybe you could do that sometime this weekend.

A New Creation
By Max Lucado
“If anyone belongs to Christ, there is a new creation.” 2 Corinthians 5:17
At our new birth God remakes our souls and gives us what we need, again. New eyes so we can see by faith. A new mind so we can have the mind of Christ. New strength so we won’t grow tired. A new vision so we won’t lose heart. A new voice for praise and new hands for service. And most of all, a new heart. A heart that has been cleansed by Christ.

The Origin of Unmet Needs
by Dr. Charles Stanley
Romans 5:6-8
Emotional needs can be every bit as acute as bodily requirements. The desire for love, acceptance, and a sense of safety are hardwired into human beings by the Lord. These necessities are what cause us to seek out friendships, marriage, and, ultimately, a relationship with God. And at the root of all of our heart-needs is the longing to feel valued.
Without a solid sense of self-worth, a person cannot fully receive love and acceptance. Nor can he feel safe or at rest. The uncertain man projects onto family and friends the God-sized job of proving his value. From them, he seeks constant verbal assurance and displays of their loyalty. The problem is that no human can be an inexhaustible emotional resource.
Inevitably, basing worth on people's judgments and acts of love makes for a yo-yo-like self-image—it's down, it's up, it's down again. Besides, no one can build an adequate collection of good opinions to substitute for God's devotion. On the cross, Jesus Christ gave the only accurate measure of our significance: He considered every single person worth dying for. We can't buy or earn God's unconditional love. It is ours to receive with an open heart. Jesus' sacrifice stands as proof that we are of infinite value to the Sovereign of the universe.
God desires to be our unlimited emotional resource. In fact, if our self-worth is based upon anything but Him, then it is unstable. A rock-solid self-image is rooted in the recognition of who we are in Christ—beloved, redeemed, and holy children. Nothing changes His opinion.

Divine Relief
by Charles R. Swindoll
Ephesians 2:1-9
What those little Visine drops do for our eyes, relief does for our sighs . . . "it gets the red out." Few feelings bring a greater sense of satisfaction than relief, which Webster defines as "the removal or lightening of something oppressive, painful, or distressing."
When we are relieved of physical pain, we breathe easier. Hope returns as pain departs. When a relationship is strained and we finally work things out, that sense of relief is better than anything money can buy. When we finally crawl out from under the load of a heavy financial debt, nothing can compare to that sweet relief.
God calls this divine gift of relief "mercy." That's right, mercy. It's a twin alongside grace.
Grace and mercy are usually seen together, but for some strange reason, mercy seems to live in grace's shadow, eclipsed by her popularity and prestige. Check it for yourself. When the two are named together, grace always comes first. I find the result of that a little unfortunate, because most folks emphasize grace so much that mercy is seldom highlighted.
So, it's time to give mercy her due!
According to Ephesians 2:4, God is "rich in mercy." He is loaded with it! And aren't we glad? If He were not rich in mercy, we might feel secure in God's love and we might be encouraged by His grace, but our lack of relief would hinder the presence of peace. The essential link between God's grace and our peace is His mercy . . . that is, God's infinite compassion actively demonstrated toward the miserable. Not just pity. Not simply sorrow or an understanding of our plight, but divine relief that results in peace deep within.
Paul, after admitting that he was "formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor," was allowed to become not only a follower of the Way, but a participant in the service of the King.
How? Read 1 Timothy 1:13 for yourself: "I was formerly a blasphemer and a persecutor and a violent aggressor. Yet I was shown mercy."
In the simplest of terms, revolutionary changes occur in our lives because we were "shown mercy."
What a relief!
The essential link between God's grace and our peace is His mercy.

Be Still
From a devotional by Mrs. Charles Cowman - Streams in the Desert
Tread in solitude thy pathway,
Quiet heart and undismayed.
Thou shalt know things strange, mysterious,
Which to thee no voice has said.
While the crowd of petty hustlers
Grasps at vain and paltry things,
Thou wilt see a great world rising
Where soft mystic music rings.
Leave the dusty road to others,
Spotless keep thy soul and bright,
As the radiant ocean's surface
When the sun is taking flight.

Flowers in the Snow
by Marilyn Ehle
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die…” John 11:26
Even before temperatures were consistently warm, the tiny purple or white bell-shaped flowers peeked up between spring green blades of grass in our front yard. The German word for these blooms is beautifully descriptive: schneeglocken, or snow bells. Because we were only renters in the house, I had no idea who originally planted the small bulbs which every year cheered both us and passersby after the grim winter days.
But another phenomenon also occurred annually: a late spring snowstorm! That first year I feared that my tiny harbingers of spring would be destroyed, but as the sun melted the top layer of icy flakes, the snow bells bravely lifted their heads toward the warmth.
New and beautiful life is planted within us when we personally receive Jesus Christ as Savior. In a very real sense, we “bloom” as God causes growth. But invariably storms come—disappointments overwhelm, grief crushes, expectations are frustrated. We wonder if our new life has disappeared. Will the beauty of Christ within us ever again bring hope to us and encouragement to others?
And then slowly, but very surely, the warmth of God’s love begins to melt the cold realities threatening to overwhelm. Perhaps a small answered prayer. Or a Bible verse flashes like a neon sign. A friend offers unexpected support. And we are reminded that what God plants and nourishes can never die.
I like what Adrian Rogers wrote in this devotional. This sentence stood out to me, "Indeed one may not know that God is enough until God is all one has." As a believer I have found that has come true so many times in my life. In this worldly life things change in a heartbeat. But not God.

My Journey 6/24-6/25/2010
God's insight to me:
Max Lucado's devotional is a good way to understand and start your day. Even though we try very hard to be happy, according to what Max states it will not happen here. So what can we do? My advice is to let God have control of your life for that is truly the best of both lives! As the movie title states, "From here to eternity!
Uprooting Toxic Bitterness is a another good way to help make our earthly lives better. So many times bitterness enters our lives and begins creating havoc. As Adrian Rogers writes "Forgive them for Christ's sake!" Because until you do that Christ can not be effective through you. I like how Adrian Rogers wrote "With the Spirit's spade, root it out."
Dr. Charles Stanley's devotional speaks of fulfilling our needs and wants. As I was reading the devotional what stood out was this statement, "Is my petition essential to accomplishing God's purpose, or is it only for my enjoyment?" If your need is not in line with God's purpose be prepared for a lot of disappointments. What do you need in your life now to be happy? My joy is truly in the Lord. As it is written in the 23rd Psalm, the Lord is my Shepherd, my friends I have no wants.
Charles R. Swindoll's devotional could also of been named, "Effort is required". So many times we miss the rewards awaiting us because we just don't want to put in the time. Sometimes what it takes to get to the reward is tedious and no fun, so we opt for something else, then envy someone that has put in the time needed. As a teenager I always remember trying to learn to play the guitar. When it come time for practice I just didn't feel any enjoyment in doing that. Now when I saw someone who could play the guitar well, I asked myself why is he or she so much better than me? The answer, they practiced, and practiced until it became real to them where they could enjoy it and share that enjoyment with others. As I was reading Mr. Swindoll's devotional this phrase stood out, "It's up to you." Here is a poem the Lord blessed me with thinking about just that:
It’s Up To You
It ‘s up to you what you do
the choice is totally yours.
You decide each step you take
as you walk throughout your years.
Right or wrong, good or bad
you decide what to do.
But as you decide always remember
God is watching you!
You can make someone happy,
or take away their smile.
The words that you choose to speak,
can make or break them for a long while.
You can decide to forgive
the wrong someone has done,
or you can harbor resentment,
right from the beginning of day one.
The choice is yours given by God,
for that’s the way He wanted it to be.
Ever since the fall of man He said,
“You can choose a sinful life or choose Me!”

Eternal Happiness
By Max Lucado
“God has planted eternity in the hearts of men.” Ecclesiastes 3:10, TLB
You will never be completely happy on earth, simply because you were not made for earth. Oh, you will have your moments of joy. You will catch glimpses of light. You will know moments or even days of peace. But they simply do not compare with the happiness that lies ahead.

Uprooting Toxic Bitterness
by Adrian Rogers
"Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord." Hebrews 12:14
Bitterness is an emotional cancer that consumes many a person who once had the bloom of eternal springtime in his heart. Where does it come from? Usually from being hurt. Perhaps you were abused as a child, rejected by someone, fired from a job, or even bypassed at church.
Bitterness sets in when the hurt goes unresolved. There is a solution. If you've been wronged and bitterness has become so strong that you can almost taste its bile within your mouth, then it's time to pursue it with a holy vengeance. With the Spirit's spade, root it out. Draw a circle that takes in those who have wronged you. Forgive them for Christ's sake!
Bow before the Lord this morning and ask for grace and power to uproot the bitterness that has taken hold in your heart and is robbing you of the joy you desire.

Wants and Needs: The Difference
by Dr. Charles Stanley
Psalm 34:8-10
Sometimes people perceive a desire as a necessity. The heart can become so consumed with a craving that fulfilling it feels critical to well-being. Then, when God does not meet the "need," anger and frustration result.
Believers wondering why they have been neglected should honestly answer one question: "Is my petition essential to accomplishing God's purpose, or is it only for my enjoyment?" Beyond basics like food and shelter, necessities might include counseling for a troubled marriage or money for a mission trip. If we can't complete the Lord's plan without something, then it is a need, and He will answer when we pray for Him to fulfill that requirement (Phil. 4:19).
God is also pleased to satisfy desires that fit within the confines of His purpose and will (Ps. 37:4). The things we long for bring pleasure, entertainment, or a sense of joy. Many are good and worth pursuing, but they become troublesome when we deem them essential for our plans. God isn't obligated to grant wishes or fulfill any plans but His own. However, He says that those who seek Him won't lack any good thing (34:10). Pursuing the Lord above all else means making our desires subject to His will. And when we "delight in the Lord" (37:4), He'll also shape our desires to be most beneficial.
The heavenly Father wants to be His children's greatest delight—the One in whom fulfillment and satisfaction are found. When that is true in a believer's life, then he or she does not require a lot of "stuff," entertainment, or people in order to be happy. Joy is in the Lord.

Sitting in the Light
by Charles R. Swindoll
1 John 1:5-7
"You do not have to sit outside in the dark. If, however, you want to look at the stars, you will find that darkness is required. The stars neither require it nor demand it" (Annie Dillard).
A lot of things in life are like that, aren't they?
A piano sits in a room, gathering dust. It is full of the music of the masters, but in order for such strains to flow from it, fingers must strike the keys . . . trained fingers, representing endless hours of disciplined dedication. You do not have to practice. The piano neither requires it nor demands it. If, however, you want to draw beautiful music from the piano, that discipline is required.
A child plays at your feet, growing and learning. That little one has incredible potential, a hidden reservoir of capability and creativity, but in order for those possibilities to be developed, parents must take time . . . listen, train, encourage, reprove, challenge, support, and model. Moms and dads do not have to do any of that. The child neither requires nor demands that we do so. If, however, we hope to raise secure and healthy offspring, those things are required.
Time spreads itself before us, directionless and vacant. That time can be filled with meaningful activities and personal accomplishments, but in order for that to occur, you must think through a plan and carry it out. You do not have to plan or follow through. Time neither requires it nor demands it. If, however, you hope to look back over those days, weeks, months, and years and smile at what was achieved, planning is required.
What is true of the stars, a piano, a child, and the days ahead is especially true of your mind. It awaits absorption. It will soak up whatever you feed it: imaginary worries, fears, filthy and seductive thoughts, hours of television, and selfish greed . . . or good books, stimulating discussions, exciting risks of faith, the memorization of Scripture, and learning a few new skills. You can even take a course or two that will stretch your mental muscles.
You do not have to pay the price to grow and expand intellectually. The mind neither requires it nor demands it. If, however, you want to experience the joy of discovery and the pleasure of plowing new and fertile soil, effort is required.
Light won't automatically shine upon you, nor will truth silently seep into your head by means of rocking-chair osmosis.
It's up to you. It's your move.
If the splendor of the stars is worth sitting outside in the dark, believe me, the joy of fresh discovery is worth sitting inside
in the light.

My Journey 6/23/2010
God's insight to me:
This morning as I was reading my devotionals nothing was coming through that the Lord touched my heart with. They were good devotionals but I just didn't hear the Lord say, "share this." Then I came to this last one by Gloria Copeland. What came to mind was a woman that I was talking with in a nursing home about two weeks ago. She told me, "my life is over!" I told her that I didn't think her life was over, but that it has changed. What she needed to know is that she had to see herself as strong as written in this devotional below.
Yesterday I was talking with a friend of mine that I use to work with. Though I haven't seen him in over 7 years we keep in contact with each other now and then by phone. I asked him how he was doing and he said, "Not good." He is having health issues and a lot of trouble with his legs. I could tell just by his voice he was not staying strong. He is definitely a candidate for the devil's playground. Even as I write this I am thinking easy for me to say, for I am not going through it. But each of us as believers or non-believers are tested daily. When the devil is coming down on me, because I let him, I found what works for me is what a friend of mine has been saying for years, "Go to God's Word!"
Romans 8:37 But in all these things we more than conquer through Him who loved us.
Philippians 1:21 For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.
Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.
2Corinthians 5:7 for we walk by faith, not by sight;
Even when Christ walked this earth and He was tested as the Son of Man, He said,
Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said to him, Get behind me, Satan! For it is written, "You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only shall you serve."
My friends, we are not losers but victors in Christ.
Psalm 84:11-12 For Jehovah God is a sun and shield; Jehovah will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.
O Jehovah of Hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in You.
Strength In My Weakness
The day is grey and weary,
many troubles have come my way.
With head bowed down and hands clasped in prayer,
I said, “Lord be my strength today!”
Today my life is like a burden,
a heavy weight that is bringing me down.
What little strength I look for,
is nowhere to be found.
So I am calling out to You Lord,
please brighten up my day.
I am standing firm on Your Word,
because I believe there is no other way.
Though my body seems to be getting weaker,
I know in You I am truly blessed.
My strength always comes from you Lord,
for my weaknesses are only a tests.

See Yourself Strong
by Gloria Copeland
And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.
– Numbers 13:33
How does the devil see you? Does he see you as a terrifying and mighty warrior of God...or does he see you as a wimp he can whip in a minute?
The answer to that question depends on you. I realized that one day as I was studying the children of Israel and their failure to enter the Promised Land. The key to their failure is found in these words: "And we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in theirs."
The reason the Israelites were so terrified to fight the giants in Canaan wasn't because those giants were so big. It was because the Israelites saw themselves as so small! It was what they were in their own sight that defeated them.
The same thing is true for you as a believer. It's what you are in your own sight that will make the difference. If, in your own sight, you're a weak, powerless Christian, the devil will run over you three or four times a day or more if he's not busy. But when you begin to see yourself as God sees you, as a conquering son or daughter of the Almighty God equipped with the very power of God Himself, the devil will want to steer clear of you.
The devil would rather do anything than come against somebody who's bold and courageous, because he's a coward himself. In fact, ever since Jesus came up out of that grave, Satan's heart has melted within him at the sound of that Name in the mouth of one who has faith in it.
If you're not strong in the Lord in your own sight, you need to change that. You need to get so full of God's Word and so full of the Holy Ghost that you walk around like a spiritual giant. Turn the tables on the devil and let him find out what it feels like to be a grasshopper for a change.

My Journey 6/21 - 6/22/2010
God's insight for me:
A. B. Simpson's devotional speaks about helping. Reaching out to someone in need. He states that there are several ways to do this, prayer, giving, encouraging, smiling, and also the ever slight touch of the hand. The God's Love Outreach Ministry presents many if not all of these in the many programs designed by the Spirit to reach out and touch someone. The little poem at the end of Mr. Simpson's devotional is excellent.
The Contentment devotional is an excellent explanation of how each of us should feel in doing the Lords work. The garden story was well written and relates to sometimes how we can feel that the other person has it so much better. What it all boils down to is we all have our own work to do, and no one can do it better than what God created you to do.
Max Lucado's devotional reminded me of a line in the song "If I Can Dream", that is presented to the residents in various nursing homes this month. The line states,"We can redeem our souls and fly", (I changed it to the plural for all of us). If people could just grasp and understand what God wants for each of us. Happiness. But sometimes with all the problems in this world it is hard for many of us to find, true happiness. We find someone or something is holding onto our wings making it hard to soar to the heights that God wants us to be at. I find when I keep my focus on Christ that He is the wind beneath my wings.
Wings
The burdens of life are many,
trouble and heartache has come our way.
I raised my eyes above and said,
“Lord give us wings to fly away!”
Please let my wings take me
to a place that’s safe and free.
Free from life’s constant battles
that are always all around me.
Within a few moments
I felt God’s presence oh so near.
Jesus spoke to my heart and said,
“Why is it that you fear?
If I give you wings they will lift you up
but in this world troubles will always be.
It is not the wings that will free you from them,
but the faith that you have in Me!

"God hath set some in the church ... helps" (I. Cor. xii. 28).
In the apostle's lists of officers in the church the "helps" are mentioned before the "governments." By the ministry of prayer, by the ministry of giving, by the ministry of encouragement, by the shining face and mute pressure of the hand, and a little word of cheer, and by the countless ways in which we can help, or at least can keep from hindering, we can all find still the footprints of Aquila and Priscilla, if we want to follow them.
It is a great grace to be able to rejoice in another's work and pour our lives, like affluent rivers, into great streams. But God knows whence every drop has come, and in the greater day of recompense many of the helps shall have the chief reward.
Beloved, are you helping? Are you helping your pastor, your brother, your husband, your mother, your fellow-worker, and when the harvest comes shall he that soweth and he that reapeth rejoice together?
You can help by holy prayer,
Helpful love and joyful song,
O, the burdens you may bear,
O, the sorrows you may share,
O, the crowns you yet may wear,
If you help along.

Contentment
"I have learned, in whatsoever state I am, therewith to be content" (Phil. 4:11).
Paul, denied of every comfort, wrote the above words in his dungeon. A story is told of a king who went into his garden one morning, and found everything withered and dying. He asked the oak that stood near the gate what the trouble was. He found it was sick of life and determined to die because it was not tall and beautiful like the pine. The pine was all out of heart because it could not bear grapes, like the vine. The vine was going to throw its life away because it could not stand erect and have as fine fruit as the peach tree. The geranium was fretting because it was not tall and fragrant like the lilac; and so on all through the garden. Coming to a heart's-ease, he found its bright face lifted as cheery as ever. "Well, heart's-ease, I'm glad, amidst all this discouragement, to find one brave little flower. You do not seem to be the least disheartened." "No, I am not of much account, but I thought that if you wanted an oak, or a pine, or a peach tree, or a lilac, you would have planted one; but as I knew you wanted a heart's-ease, I am determined to be the best little heart's-ease that I can."
"Others may do a greater work,
But you have your part to do;
And no one in all God's heritage
Can do it so well as you."
They who are God's without reserve, are in every state content; for they will only what He wills, and desire to do for Him whatever He desires them to do; they strip themselves of everything, and in this nakedness find all things restored an hundredfold.

He Wants You To Fly
By Max Lucado
June 22
“If you believe, you will get anything you ask for in prayer.” Matthew 21:22
Don’t reduce this grand statement to the category of new cars and paychecks . . .
God wants you to fly. He wants you to fly free of yesterday’s guilt. He wants you to fly free of today’s fears. He wants you to fly free of tomorrow’s grave. Sin, fear, and death. These are the mountains he has moved. These are the prayers he will answer.

My Journey 6/17- 6/20/2010
God's insight to me:
As I was reading Max Lucado's devotional my eyes stayed on four words "one realizes his despair". In this worldly life we fight just the thought of despair. No one wants it in their lives. So if we are constantly not trying to think about it then maybe we won't try to realize it is there. And then as Max Lucado wrote it will be harder to accept God's free gift of grace.
I think a lot of Christians can relate to what Adrian Rogers wrote about in his devotional. I think of the term "dry spell" when not feeling God's presence. But we must always remember God's timing is not our timing. His words to Joshua is the same for us today. Joshua 1:5 No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not fail you nor forsake you.
Dr. Charles Stanley also wrote about gifts from God. But what we ask for we don't necessarily get for the Father knows what we need. I like how Dr. Stanley wrote about God's gifts as "intangible qualities of a Christlike character". How awesome that is. That is what the Father wants for us, to be like His Son and He gives us trials for just that reason. Also the phrase "Lack of understanding" is so true. So many of us just don't understand. The answer is in His Word. B-basic, I-instructions, B-before, L-leaving, E-earth. BIBLE.
Yesterday was Father's Day. 6/20/2010. I went to church to praise my Heavenly Father, then spent much of the day reflecting back on my earthly Dad. I went out to his grave site where his earthly remains rests next to my moms. As I looked down at the grave stone it is engraved with the year he passed on, 1989. Wow, that was over twenty years ago. In my mind I can picture him laughing when winning a card game from my mother. Like it was yesterday. I can see him working in the garden to provide fresh food for his family. I could also picture his face when angry with myself or my brothers. It was a look that made me feel, "Boy I am in trouble now!" I can still picture him crying, being so proud of us when we received a reward from school or something like that. But what is one of my best pictures in my mind was when I read what was written in one of my mom's bible, "Steve gave his heart to the Lord today". That my friends means we will be together again. This is a poem I wrote to my dad on a Father's Day, after he passed away.
For My Dad
I wrote this poem for you Dad,
on this day that’s devoted to you.
It's just a simple poem of thanks
for all you tried to do.
Not all things I agreed with,
and some I questioned why?
But one thing is for sure Dad,
you were always the best in my eyes.
Now that you're no longer with me
there's a spot in my heart left bare.
A place that can never be filled again,
it's for you and no other can share.
I have only the memories left now,
so I guess they will have to do,
for the one thing time can never erase,
is the love I have for you.
Your son,
Ed

To Be Saved By Grace
By Max Lucado
“God gives us a free gift—life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 6:23
One of the hardest things to do is to be saved by grace. There’s something in us that reacts to God’s free gift. We have some weird compulsion to create laws, systems, and regulations that will make us “worthy” of our gift.
Why do we do that? The only reason I can figure is pride. To accept grace means to accept its necessity, and most folks don’t like to do that. To accept grace also means that one realizes his despair, and most people aren’t too keen on doing that either.

God Has Not Forgotten You
by Adrian Rogers
"And He shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday." Psalm 37:6
One preacher was in a church where he felt God had led him. But nothing seemed to be working out, so he wanted to go to another church.
He told a friend, "I know where God put me, and I know God put me here, but I just wonder if He remembers where He put me."
Yes, God remembers! He has not forgotten. He is never late. Don't rush God. Don't think He has abandoned you because your prayers are not answered. He will turn your midnight into a sunrise and your mourning into dancing.
Read Psalm 37:4-7 and rejoice in the hope of God's providence and provision in your life.

The Father's Good Gifts
by Dr. Charles Stanley
Matthew 7:7-11
Today's passage contains one of God's most generous assurances to us. Not only are we granted permission to come to Him with our requests, but He also promises to answer our prayers. However, you may be thinking, If this is true, why hasn't He given me what I asked?
Verses 9-11 hold the key to understanding this passage: "What man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone? . . . If you, then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!" Think in terms of parenting. A child may want the latest video game, but his parent knows that a different gift would be better for him. In the same way, the God who made us is more keenly aware of our needs than we are (Matt. 10:30).
Because of spiritual immaturity or the limitations of our humanity, we may ask for what we perceive as good and necessary, when it isn't truly in our best interest. But our loving Father gives what He knows is more beneficial. Many of His gifts are the intangible qualities of a Christlike character, which develops through trials and testing. We may feel He's given us a snake instead of a fish, but the problem is with our lack of understanding, not with God's goodness.
When it seems that the Lord isn't answering your requests, remember that He's a loving Father, and consider what good gifts He is giving instead. Although it may take years to gain an adequate perspective, in time you'll say, "Lord, You were right. Thank You for giving me exactly what I needed."

A Sound Heart
By Charles Stanley
"Let my heart be sound in Thy Statues: that I be not ashamed" (Psalm 119:80).
We may regard this inspired prayer as containing within itself the assurance that those who keep close to the Word of God shall never have cause to be ashamed of doing so.
See, the prayer is for soundness of heart. A sound creed is good, a sound judgment concerning it is better, but a sound heart toward the truth is best of all. We must love the truth, feel the truth, and obey the truth, otherwise we are not truly sound in God's statutes. Are there many in these evil days who are sound? Oh, that the writer and the reader may be two of this sort!
Many will be ashamed in the last great day, when all disputes will be decided. Then they will see the folly of their inventions and be filled with remorse because of their proud infidelity and willful defiance of the LORD; but he who believed what the LORD taught and did what the LORD commanded will stand forth justified in what he did. Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun. Men much slandered and abused shall find their shame turned into glory in that day.
Let us pray the prayer of our text, and we may be sure that its promise will be fulfilled to us. If the LORD makes us sound, He will keep us safe.

My Journey 6/16/2010
God's insight to me:
I love when F. B. Meyer wrote in his devotional "from their own experience could speak to the heart". What I have found in doing the Lord's work, I am most effective for Him because of my own trials that I have gone through. The God's Love Outreach Ministry touches many hearts because Christ touched mine. God's wounded that are reaching out can see I am truly reaching back to them in the name above all names, Jesus.
Gentle leading is a good devotional. All this month in the program Seeds of Youth from the Seeds for Christ series there is a gospel song that I sing, "Lead Me, Guide Me". As I was reading Mrs. Charles Cowman's devotional that song came to mind. When I came to this line by Frances Ridley Havergal "not one step will He make you take beyond what your foot is able to endure", I thought, "Lord, if we can just grasp the meaning of that!" See, Jesus has gone through it all before us. Praise God!
A. B. Simpson's devotional to me should be titled, "All for Jesus". Please understand what is written in this sentence; God takes a peculiar pride in showing His love to the heart that wholly chooses Him. The word that should stand out, well, it did for me is "chooses"! In the book Experiencing God by Henry & Richard Blackaby on page #160 it states, "God is interested in absolute surrender." How do we do that? Choice. Willingness to give all to Him because of what He gave to us. He chose us before we chose or wanted to choose Him. For God so loved us!
Jesus All For Jesus
Jesus all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
Jesus all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
All of my ambitions hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands
All of my ambitions hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands
For it's only in Your will that I am free
For it's only in Your will that I am free
Jesus all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
All of my ambitions hopes and plans
I surrender these into Your hands
Jesus all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be
For it's only in Your will that I am free
For it's only in Your will that I am free

Our Daily Homily
by F. B. Meyers
June 16
Thou shall remember that thou wast a bondman. Deu 16:12
This gave the touch of gentle tenderness to Israel's treatment of the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow. They knew what loneliness and desperate suffering were; and from their own experience could speak to the heart. Without tenderness and sympathy, what are our gifts to the poor worth? It is as important to give graciously and kindly as to give at all. None are so sensitive as sufferers, whether in mind, body, or circumstance; they are quick to notice the slightest roughness or harshness in our manner of bestowing relief; they would prefer a pittance given with tender sympathy to a larger gift flung at them grudgingly. But what can give this thoughtful sympathetic manner like the memory of our own sufferings, when we were bondmen in Egypt!
It may be that God is passing thee through some fiery ordeal, to teach thee and fit thee to be His almoner, touching and soothing as His outstretched hand of pity. Soon thy present sorrow shall be but a memory; but thou wilt be called to minister to the fatherless, the widow, the stranger. Always say in thine heart, God is passing me through this sorrow, and comforting me, and delivering me, that I may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble with the very accent, caress, and tender word which He hath spoken to me. "Blessed be the God of all comfort; who comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God."
In heaven itself we shall never quite forget that we were bondmen once, but were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ. This will give a new meaning to the song of adoring gladness.

Gentle Leading
"I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure" (Gen. 33:14).
What a beautiful picture of Jacob's thoughtfulness for the cattle and the children! He would not allow them to be overdriven even for one day. He would not lead on according to what a strong man like Esau could do and expected them to do, but only according to what they were able to endure. He knew exactly how far they could go in a day; and he made that his only consideration in arranging the marches. He had gone the same wilderness journey years before, and knew all about its roughness and heat and length, by personal experience. And so he said, "I will lead on softly." "For ye have not passed this way heretofore" (Josh.3:4.).
We have not passed this way heretofore, but the Lord Jesus has. It is all untrodden and unknown ground to us, but He knows it all by personal experience. The steep bits that take away our breath, the stony bits that make our feet ache so, the hot shadeless stretches that make us feel so exhausted, the rushing rivers that we have to pass through--Jesus has gone through it all before us. "He was wearied with his journey." Not some, but all the many waters went over Him, and yet did not quench His love. He was made a perfect Leader by the things which He suffered. "He knoweth our frame; he remembereth that we are dust." Think of that when you are tempted to question the gentleness of His leading. He is remembering all the time; and not one step will He make you take beyond what your foot is able to endure. Never mind if you think it will not be able for the step that seems to come next; either He will so strengthen it that it shall be able, or He will call a sudden halt, and you shall not have to take it at all. --Frances Ridley Havergal
In "pastures green"? Not always; sometimes He Who knowest best, in kindness leadeth me In weary ways, where heavy shadows be. So, whether on the hill-tops high and fair I dwell, or in the sunless valleys, where The shadows lie, what matter? He is there.

Days of Heaven Upon Earth
A.B. Simpson Devotional
June 16
"Ye cannot serve God and Mammon" (Matt. vi. 24).
He does not say ye cannot very well serve God and mammon, but ye cannot serve two masters at all.
Ye shall be sure to end by serving one. The man who thinks he is serving God a little is deceived; he is not serving God. God will not have his service.
The devil will monopolize him before he gets through. A divided heart loses both worlds. Saul tried it. Balaam tried it. Judas tried it, and they all made a desperate failure. Mary had but one choice.
Paul said: "This one thing I do." "For me to live is Christ." Of such a life God says: "Because he hath set his love upon Me therefore will I deliver him.
I will set him on high because he hath known My name." God takes a peculiar pride in showing His love to the heart that wholly chooses Him. Heaven and earth will fade away before its trust can be disappointed. Have we chosen Him only and given Him all our heart?
Say is it all for Jesus,
As you so often sing?
Is He your Royal Master?
Is He your heart's dear King?
I love when F. B. Meyer wrote in his devotional "from their own experience could speak to the heart". What I have found in doing the Lord's work, I am most effective for Him because of my own trials that I have gone through.
Jesus all for Jesus
All I am and have and ever hope to be

God's insight to me:
As I was reading Adrian Roger's devotional I thought of the saying, "God will not give us more than we can handle". When people say that maybe they are thinking of Psalm 103:14? I know God is a loving and faithful God. He knows me better than anyone else. Adrian Rogers states that God knows the load we are carrying. Then why do so many people carry such a heavy load? Faith. Trust. To have a relationship with God you must have those two items. We think we know what we can handle but it is the Creator that knows our breaking point. "If God brings us to it, He will get us through it!"
Dr. Stanley's devotional "hits the nail on the head", as the saying goes. He states that in this earthly life both the believers and the non-believers receive blessings from God. Isn't it amazing that even someone who doesn't know God or chooses not to have a relationship with Him is still blessed as those that do. The "hitting the nail on the head" part is that it is not about this life. It is and always will be about the next one. Also if man is accountable for non-belief how much more accountable are those that know the Gospel and do not tell others about it?
Charles Spurgeon is a wonderful way of expressing how God is taking care of us and protecting us. The way we can thank Him for this is by being what He created to be. Like His Son, Jesus. Being fruitful for the Kingdom.
In the permission to be honest devotional I was thinking of my own life and how so many times rather than being honest I would lie my way through. Of course the more I lied the worse the situation became. Now with my walk for Christ I do not want to lie. I don't have to lie for I find I am not in those times where I have to. And the more and more you develop this character of honesty, people see it in you. Being Christ-like!
The Prayer for changing times should also be a daily prayer. Sometimes when we rest for the night the day brings us new trials to be faced. Life's trials. These are also opportunities that God gives us to grow closer to Him. Today He blessed me with this poem that speaks about "Life's Rivers". So many times we come to the edge wanting to cross over, away from the anguish that we may be going through.
Life’s Rivers
I came to one of life’s rivers,
looking for a place to cross.
I had to get to the other side
for I felt where I was all was lost.
I looked over to the other side,
and saw Jesus waving to me.
I cried out, “Here I am Lord,
please come and help me!”
I heard Him speak in a very loud voice,
“Do not be afraid and don’t lose heart.
There is a time and place for you to cross,
and we will never be apart.
Life’s rivers are many,
trials that will come your way.
Just have faith and trust in Me
and we will cross them together each day!

Tempted, But Not Beyond What We Can Bear
by Adrian Rogers
"For He knows our frame; He remembers that we are dust." Psalm 103:14
A factory mechanic builds a truck. He knows the chassis of that truck and knows the load it can carry. In the same way, God knows your frame and He knows the load that you can carry.
God is faithful; He will not suffer you to be tempted above that which you are able. Nothing comes to you but that which comes through God. Even what Satan does, he can only do as God allows it. And so you can say the temptation was so strong that you could not overcome it, but it won't be true. God will provide a way of escape.
When you are tempted today (notice I didn't say "if" but "when"), ask God to provide a way of escape. Then, trust His way and obey.

The Privilege of Knowing God
by Dr. Charles Stanley
Psalm 19:1-6
There is no greater privilege than knowing God—and no greater tragedy than failing to develop a relationship with Him. Yet many people live their whole life apart from Jesus, and, therefore, when they die, they are separated from Him eternally.
While on earth, both the righteous and unrighteous enjoy benefits of divine blessing (Matt. 5:45), so those who choose to live without Christ probably have no clue how dreadful a godless eternity will be. Some people seem to ignore the Bible's warnings about "outer darkness," "weeping," and "gnashing of teeth" (Matt. 8:12; 22:13; 25:30; Luke 13:28). Or is it possible they've simply never heard the good news of salvation?
Romans 1:18-20 answers that: Creation offers so much evidence of God that man is held accountable for unbelief. Consider nature's design, beauty, and order—these things don't just evolve.
What's more, God reveals Himself in the human conscience (2:14-15). Even societies with no access to Scripture forbid ungodly behaviors like rape, murder, and theft.
In addition, we have God's revelation of Himself through both His Word and the incarnation of Jesus (John 14:7-9). Christ, who was fully God, became fully man. And His life perfectly demonstrates the heavenly Father's character and heart.
Can you recognize evidence of the Almighty in creation and in the "law" written on your conscience? Do you seek to know Him better through His Word and the example of Christ? The Lord desires a relationship with you and is calling. Answer with a seeking heart, and watch for God to "show up."

Divine Cultivation
by Charles Spurgeon
"I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: Lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day" (Isaiah 27:3).
When the LORD Himself speaks in His own proper person rather than through a prophet, the word has a peculiar weight to believing minds. It is Jehovah Himself who is the keeper of His own vineyard; He does not trust it to any other, but He makes it His own personal care. Are they not well kept whom God Himself keeps?
We are to receive gracious watering, not only every day and every hour "but every moment." How we ought to grow! How fresh and fruitful every plant should be! What rich clusters the vines should bear!
But disturbers come; little foxes and the boar. Therefore, the LORD Himself is our Guardian, and that at all hours, both "night and day." What, then, can harm us? Why are we afraid! He tends, He waters, He guards; what more do we need?
Twice in this verse the LORD says, "I will." What truth, what power, what love, what immutability we find in the great "I will" of Jehovah! Who can resist His will? If He says "I will," what room is there for doubt? With an "I will" of God we can face all the hosts of sin, death, and hell. O LORD, since Thou sayest, "I will keep thee," I reply, "I will praise Thee!"

Permission to be Honest
June 14th, 2010 By Vonette Bright
"He whose walk is blameless and who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from his heart." Psalm 15:2
I read some time ago about a soldier who was being “drilled” by her sergeant.
Question after question!
She wanted to answer… and respond directly, but felt she’d be even in bigger trouble.
So finally, the private asked, “Permission to be honest, Sir?”
Imagine… permission to be honest!
The fact is… if you are a Christian, you are commanded to be honest.
And that’s true in all your relationships: family, friends, work… even with God Himself.
So let me ask you.
Do you believe you can be completely honest and open in your communication with God?
You need never fear coming before your heavenly Father and being totally truthful with Him.
He already knows your heart!
Being honest with God is good practice for being honest with others when you tell them about Jesus.

Prayer for our Changing Times

Lord,
There is so much happening in our world right now.
In the midst of it all, it’s so good know
You’re in control,
Your love is never ending,
And You provide for us.
As the trees turn colors and nights get cooler,
May we be reminded
That every season of our lives
Is a part of Your loving plan.
Amen

My Journey 6/10/2010
God's insight to me:
The outreach ministry that I have been called into, has seen a lot of people that their lives has been changed. For many of them Adrian Rogers devotional may be fitting, for they are doing a lot of "navel gazing". About a week ago a woman told me her life was over. She was just waiting to die. I told her that her life was not over but changed. This can happen to anyone of us at anytime. Age is really not the determining factor. What happens to all of us is life!
A gentleman younger than myself in a nursing home lost his ability to communicate plus some of his mobility. For about a year he was very withdrawn until he was able to communicate via a small laptop that he takes with him on his walker.
I have seen so many people that their lives have changed, "God's wounded", but their lives are not over. The message that I bring them is He loves them and He still has a plan for their lives.
This poem that the Lord blessed me with yesterday speaks of taking for granted the blessings we have daily and expect them to be there. But what is important is to be thankful for them and to use them each day to bring Him glory!
I Took It All For Granted
When I awoke this morning,
from my eyes I could not see.
The light that once shown from the window,
it’s now all darkness to me.
I tried to call out for help,
but my words they would not flow.
The blessings I took for granted yesterday,
are no longer with me now.
My limbs that once was active,
now hang limp at my side.
My feet that once carried me to places,
are not responsive even when I try.
The moral of this poem is
“Do not take for granted what you have today,
use what the good Lord has blessed you with,
for His purpose, before it goes away.

Dealing With Doubt in the Midst of Trials
by Adrian Rogers
"For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." Hebrews 4:15
When something bad happens to us, we may respond with, "What did I do? I must have done something terrible." Then we proceed down the trail of morbid introspection or what I call "navel gazing." We look down and into ourselves. We take ourselves apart piece by piece, examining and re-examining ourselves. Then we put ourselves back together trying to figure out what we did wrong.
It may be that you have done absolutely nothing wrong, but God is simply testing your faith. You see, if we don't understand this, we may get discouraged.
The seeds of doubt and discouragement sprout in the soil of ignorance.
Claim the promises of 1 Peter 1:3-9 for strength in the midst of your trial.

My Journey 6/9/2010
God's insight to me:
My friends, as you read the insight that God is given to me on my daily journey with Him, I pray that through these words you are able to see His light kindled in me. This first devotional speaks volumes of what we as Christians should be to all others, not just other Christians. I love the A. B. Simpson's quote in this devotional, "We should feel always we may never have another opportunity for it."
As always Max Lucado's devotional hit home. So many people, probably daily have grown weary. Waiting, trying and still nothing. We have cast our worldly fishing line out into the waters wanting, healing either physically or spiritually but no bites. Listen to Jesus as He tells you once again, over here, cast over here! What you need is over here.
In Adrian Rogers devotional I can relate to what this devotional is about. There are very few TV shows that I watch and enjoy because of the substance in them. But one I did like from years ago was "Everybody Loves Raymond." Not too often but every now and then in some shows they did make light of God. In my spirit I would get a cold feeling and ask the Lord to forgive them. Just as Adrian Rogers stated, "We are never, ever to use His name unless we are serious".
Charles Stanley always has such great devotionals. This one I related to very well for a long time I couldn't open up to anyone. Like probably a lot of people I kept everything to myself. For sure that didn't help my marriage or relationship with other family members and friends. But ever since I have given control of my life to Christ that has all changed. The message that I bring to His many wounded and also all I come in contact with is, "If God be for us, who can be against us?" Of course the answer is "no one!" If you can truly believe that in your heart you won't have a problem relating to anyone, anymore.
Now this last devotional is a good follow up to Dr. Stanley's. Before and After could be the title of a great poem. Broken and Transformed could be another. With those few words it could explain Christian life. Being born again. A phrase that non-believers have a hard time grasping. I can tell you from my personal life, it is true. The old is gone, replaced by new.
Before and After
This life is always changing
each day brings something new.
What once was bright and shining,
with time turns dull it’s true.
Just like our earthly bodies,
that once was tight and firm,
we can now look in a mirror,
and see from time what we have learned.
Is there anything that will stay the same,
as through life we do proceed?
Yes my friends, it’s called God’s love,
given by His grace to you and me.
See it was there from the beginning,
and will be there in the end.
A gift for each and everyone,
all you have to do is choose, my friend.

Days of Heaven Upon Earth Devotionals by A. B. Simpson
"Ye are the light of the world" (Matt. v. 14).
We are called the lights of the world, light-bearers, reflectors, candle-sticks, lamps. We are to be kindled ourselves, and then we will burn and give light to others.
We are the only light the world has. The Lord might come down Himself and give light to the world, but He has chosen differently. He wants to send it through us, and if we don't give it the world will not have it.
We should be giving light all the time to our neighbors. God does not put a meteor in the sky to tell us when to shine. We are to be giving light all the time wherever we are, at home, or in the social circle, or in our place in the church.
We should feel always we may never have another opportunity for it, and so we should always be burning and shining for Him. Let our lamps be trimmed and burning and full of the oil of the Spirit. Above all, let us be a steady light to the lost ones.
Let me dwell in Timnath Serah,
Where the sun forever shines,
Where the night and darkness come not,
And the day no more declines.

Try Again
By Max Lucado
“We worked hard all night and caught nothing.” Luke 5:5 NASB
Do you know the feeling of a sleepless, fishless night? Of course you do. For what have you been casting? . . .
Faith? “I want to believe, but . . .”
Healing? “I’ve been sick so long . . .”
A happy marriage? “No matter what I do . . .”
You’ve sat where Peter sat. And now Jesus is asking you to go fishing. He knows your nets are empty. He knows your heart is weary . . . But he urges, “It’s not too late to try again.”

His Name Is Holy
by Adrian Rogers
"For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy." Isaiah 57:15
"Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain" (Exodus 20:7).
We all know that profanity is one way that you can take God's name in vain, but I'll tell you another way, and that's in frivolous talk.
That is, just taking the name of God carelessly or lightly. Ephesians 5:4 mentions "foolish jesting." What does that mean? God's name is holy. We are never, ever to use His name unless we are serious. Now if you use humor to illustrate something, that's fine, but it's repugnant to use the Holy name of God frivolously.
Begin the day by meditating on the holiness of God.

Open Up to Others
By Dr. Charles Stanley
2 Corinthians 6:11-13
Social networking is big business. Things like Facebook, e-mail, and texting reveal our hunger to connect with one another, yet many people still feel lonely. The fall of Adam and Eve usually brings to mind the disconnection that sin created between God and mankind, but it also affected all human relationships from that time onward. As a result, fear and pride threaten to keep us in bondage to isolation and self-protection.
Surprisingly, many homes, workplaces, and churches are gatherings of strangers. Even husbands and wives can live in the same house without really knowing each other. Being able to list many facts about those we live and work with is not the same as really knowing them. To some degree, whether we are known by others is our responsibility. Even the friendliest person may not be able to penetrate someone else's self-erected walls. To be known, we must risk opening up and letting others in.
Paul pled with the Corinthians to open up to him as he had to them. Because they'd built emotional walls, their relation-ship with him and their effectiveness as a church were hindered. Of all people, believers are called to live in open honesty and accountability with one another. We cannot shut everybody out and expect to have an open relationship with God.
Relational walls can be hard to recognize. Unforgiveness, a sense of unworthiness, and fear of rejection are common reasons for self-protective barriers. Ask God to reveal any ways that you're shutting someone out. He will help you demolish all hindrances to your relationship with Him and others.

devotional from www.365.org
I love home makeover TV shows. The "before" scenes capture the broken down, falling apart, and messed up houses that people are living in. For a variety of reasons people have come into hard times and they are chosen because someone thinks they deserve better. The "after" scenes are amazing, a work of tearing down the old and watching transformation take place. The change happens right before our eyes.
That is the power of the Good News. All of us are broken, falling apart, messed up. For a variety of reasons we are where we are today. The life-changing words are "but when God." "But when God" is welcomed into our messes, when God breaks into the hurt, confusion, disappointment of our lives, the old can become new. Change can take place.
Paul often told his "before and after" story of the change Jesus had begun and the way it continued to shape him.
Consider the broken places in your life that have been transformed. Remember the "but when God..." moments when you knew divine change was happening. Give thanks that God is always able to renovate. Pray for a willing partnership in the renovation work!

My Journey 6/2 - 6/8/2010
God's insight to me:
Seven days of "My Journey" and busy, busy, busy. I am amazed that in my retirement I am busier than ever before. But these last seven days left me little time to sit in front of my computer screen. It seemed that even in the mornings it was wake up then go, go, go. As I read a couple devotionals from this period of time these two stayed with me.
Max Lucado's devotional about contentment is what I can relate to my life now. Even as I am busier more now, it is a fulfilling type of busy. I have also found though the body may grow weary even doing the Lord's work the contentment over rides all the other obstacles that may occur as to what Max Lucado was referring to, "frustrations, and anxieties". It comes down to priorities and I prefer God's to mine.
Charles Stanley's devotional was a good one to follow Max Lucado's. Staying the course. There were plenty of times as my body was starting to give in, I knew, with God's strength, I could accomplish what He had given me to do for that day. Though I like to spend time in front of my computer screen it is only fruitful if He leads me to do it. Some days He is blessing me with two poems or reading His Word or listening to what He wants to speak to me about through daily devotionals. Some days like the past seven He withdraws the interest from the computer so I can go where He is leading me to go. Helping friends, church family and tending to my family needs. But rest assure one thing, my goal will always be "a wholehearted pursuit of Christ". Always remember this quote, "Seven days without Jesus will definitely make one weak!"

Contentment
By Max Lucado
“Godliness with contentment is great gain.” 1 Timothy 6:6, NKJV
In our world, contentment is a strange street vendor, roaming . . . slowly from house to house . . . offering his wares: an hour of peace, a smile of acceptance, a sigh of relief . . .
When I asked him why so few welcomed him into their homes, his answer left me convicted. “I charge a high price, you know . . . I ask people to trade in their schedules, frustrations, and anxieties . . . You’d think I’d have more buyers . . . but people seem strangely proud of their ulcers and headaches.”

Staying on Course by Charles Stanley
Hebrews 12:1-2
The Christian life can be likened to a race with a predetermined course and a finish line in eternity. Each believer has a personalized route specially designed by the Lord. Our goal is to stay on track and run with endurance, but the path can be discerned and negotiated only by focusing on Jesus. Because He ran the race perfectly and finished His course, He can show us the way.
As with any long-term race, the course is full of obstacles that threaten to trip or sidetrack us. Temptations lure us to what we imagine are lush green pastures, while busyness can lead us down rabbit trails that end in exhaustion. Worry and fear grab hold of our minds, and emotions take us places the Lord never intended for us to go.
Although sins present the most obvious hindrances, other obstacles and detours are subtler. Anything that takes precedence over our relationship with the Lord can send us down the wrong path. Because involvement in the daily activities of earthly life is necessary, we can easily let our families, jobs, and pleasures distract us from a wholehearted pursuit of Christ. Surprisingly, even God's blessings can become obstacles in the race if we start to pursue them more than we do the Lord.
We must remember that the goal isn't to focus on the path or to try and find our way; instead, we're to fix our eyes on Jesus. He is not only our guide but also our destination. And He will welcome us home with open arms when we finish the race and cross into eternity.

My Journey - 6/1/2010
God's insight to me:
One thing I have found, if it be with family, friends, church family or God's wounded that He has called me to minister too, one familiar phrase at times, "Woe is me!" I have said that also in the past, many, many times. Today's journey I am sharing only two devotionals plus a new poem the Lord just blessed me with.
Mac Lucado's devotional is a lesson each one of must come to understand and accept through faith. I have found through my own experiences in this worldly life, we can not do it on our own. Oh, you may think you are doing good at living, with a little of God's help here and there but be aware. See, in the second devotional it talks about "trials and tribulation". Here lies the victories. But to be honest they belong to God. He will share with you if you understand He gets the glory for it. It will be in His timing, not ours.
I love and understand the saying, "When you are laying on the ground, all you can do is look up!" What you will find there is "God"! He has always been there since day one, the day that He created.
Broken and Victorious
When I realized I was broken,
I made my greatest gain.
The victory didn’t come in triumph,
but rather through my pain.
How can that be you might ask,
to win when you have lost?
Oh my beloved and precious one,
Jesus taught me that through the cross.
Each one of us must learn to be humble,
to understand we can’t do it on our own.
Cry out to our Creator, “Help me!”,
as He sits upon His Throne.
The Father’s eyes are upon us,
His ears are listening for our pleas.
Just as He heard His Son cry out from the cross,
Praise His Holy Name, I know He can hear me.

Impossible
By Max Lucado
“With God nothing will be impossible.” Luke 1:37
In our world of budgets, long-range planning and computers, don’t we find it hard to trust in the unbelievable. Don’t most of us tend to scrutinize life behind furrowed brows and walk with cautious steps? It’s hard for us to imagine that God can surprise us. To make a little room for miracles today, well, it’s not sound thinking . . .
We forget that “impossible” is one of God’s favorite words.

He Has Overcome the World
"None of these things move me" (Acts 20:24).
We read in the book of Samuel that the moment that David was crowned at Hebron, "All the Philistines came up to seek David." And the moment we get anything from the Lord worth contending for, then the devil comes to seek us.
When the enemy meets us at the threshold of any great work for God, let us accept it as "a token of salvation," and claim double blessing, victory, and power. Power is developed by resistance. The cannon carries twice as far because the exploding power has to find its way through resistance. The way electricity is produced in the powerhouse yonder is by the sharp friction of the revolving wheels. And so we shall find some day that even Satan has been one of God's agencies of blessing. --Days of Heaven upon Earth
A hero is not fed on sweets,
Daily his own heart he eats;
Chambers of the great are jails,
And head winds right for royal sails.
--Emerson
Tribulation is the way to triumph. The valley-way opens into the highway. Tribulation's imprint is on all great things. Crowns are cast in crucibles. Chains of character that wind about the feet of God are forged in earthly flames. No man is greatest victor till he has trodden the winepress of woe. With seams of anguish deep in His brow, the "Man of Sorrows" said, "In the world ye shall have tribulation"--but after this sob comes the psalm of promise, "Be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." The footprints are traceable everywhere. Bloodmarks stain the steps that lead to thrones. Sears are the price of scepters. Our crowns will be wrested from the giants we conquer. Grief has always been the lot of greatness. It is an open secret.
"The mark of rank in nature.
Is capacity for pain;
And the anguish of the singer
Makes the sweetest of the strain."
Tribulation has always marked the trail of the true reformer. It is the story of Paul, Luther, Savonarola, Knox, Wesley, and all the rest of the mighty army. They came through great tribulation to their place of power.
Every great book has been written with the author's blood. "These are they that have come out of great tribulation." Who was the peerless poet of the Greeks? Homer. But that illustrious singer was blind. Who wrote the fadeless dream of "Pilgrim's Progress"? A prince in royal purple upon a couch of ease? Nay! The trailing splendor of that vision gilded the dingy walls of old Bedford jail while John Bunyan, a princely prisoner, a glorious genius, made a faithful transcript of the scene.
Great is the facile conqueror;
Yet haply, he, who, wounded sore,
Breathless, all covered o'er with blood and sweat,
Sinks fainting, but fighting evermore
Is greater yet.
